EcoStove Project

ANEHOPE EcoStove Project: Empowering Women, Transforming Lives!

In many parts of Africa, including East African communities, women and girls endure arduous journeys to fetch firewood, braving scorching sun and facing dangers from snakes and bandits. This daily burden falls upon them, as more than 70% of rural households in East Africa rely on wood for cooking. However, this traditional method poses significant risks to the health of our sisters and mothers.

Within pastoralist communities in Arusha, Tanzania, Kajiado and Rift Valley in Kenya, and among the Karamoja of Uganda, ANEHOPE has implemented the life-changing EcoStove Project. Our aim is to provide a sustainable solution that not only reduces the hazards associated with collecting firewood but also improves indoor air quality and enhances education opportunities.

Traditionally, pastoralist communities reside in Manyattas, their warm and cozy traditional homes. However, the absence of chimneys leads to the accumulation of indoor smoke, causing eye and respiratory infections, particularly among children. This prevents them from attending school regularly and reaching their full potential.

To address these challenges and empower our communities, ANEHOPE works with women in these areas, teaching them how to construct economic stoves using local materials like clay and bricks. In groups of 10 families, they undergo a 15-day training program facilitated by our professional team. Once they acquire the necessary skills, they receive Training Certificates, enabling them to train other women in their communities to build their own economic stoves, known as EcoStoves.

But our impact goes beyond technical training. Before learning the art of building EcoStoves, these women engage in daily Bible Study sessions that foster fellowship and community unity. These gatherings provide an opportunity for spiritual growth and empowerment, enabling them to work together towards a common goal. Additionally, ANEHOPE provides Bibles in their local languages, facilitating their engagement with the Word and strengthening their faith.

As the women complete their own EcoStoves, ANEHOPE takes another step forward by equipping them with solar panels. This revolutionary addition not only eliminates indoor pollution caused by traditional cooking methods but also enables children to study and revise their notes in the evening. With access to clean and well-lit environments, they can now excel academically, attend school regularly, and unlock brighter futures.
