Did you know that more than 200 million girls and women worldwide have suffered from the traumatic practice of female genital mutilation (FGM)? Every year, over 3 million girls, from infancy to age 15, are still at risk. This deeply concerning issue predominantly affects regions in western, eastern, and northeastern Africa.
In Kenya, the statistics are staggering. UNICEF’s 2020 report revealed that over 4 million Kenyan girls and women have already endured the painful consequences of FGM. Shockingly, 21% of women and girls aged 15-49 in Kenya have fallen victim to some form of FGM.
However, amidst this darkness, a beacon of hope shines brightly. ANEHOPE, an organization dedicated to combating FGM, has been diligently working to raise awareness and educate communities in Kenya.
