Mara Elementary
Introducing the Mara Elementary School, a future Christian school focused on STEM education, soon to be built in Nanyuki, Kenya. Our upcoming school aims to nurture the natural curiosity of elementary school students, fostering their exploration, experimentation, and sharing of knowledge. As a Christian Elementary School, Mara’s teachers will cultivate a culture of creativity, collaboration, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and social responsibility.
Curriculum:
At Mara Elementary School, we believe in building knowledge systematically and acquiring skills according to each child’s developmental level. Our curriculum will go beyond teaching mere facts and figures, empowering children to think critically and learn how to learn.
To enrich our curriculum, we will have specialists in Fine Arts, Spanish, Physical & Health Sciences, Social Responsibility, Life Skills, Technology, and Robotics. These experts will bring diversity and depth to our educational program, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience for our students.
Faith:
Our primary goal at Mara Elementary School will be to teach, mentor, equip, and guide students to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. As a Christian school, we will achieve this by fostering biblical literacy, helping students embrace their identity in Christ, and nurturing their spiritual growth. Our dedicated teachers will be individuals who believe in and profess their personal faith in Jesus Christ. The educational experience at Mara Elementary School will recognize the Bible as the supreme authority in life, equipping our students to become leaders who demonstrate their faith as a practical expression of God’s love.
Communication:
Accurate and effective communication skills will be of utmost importance at Mara Elementary School. We will prioritize literacy, guiding students to develop strong spelling abilities through phonetic awareness and structural spelling patterns. Additionally, we will encourage creative and persuasive writing, intentional listening and speaking, research skills, and a love for reading. Spanish language instruction will add another dimension of literacy and foster cultural appreciation among our students.
STEM:
Our school will place a strong emphasis on STEM subjects:
- Science: Through inquiry-based strategies and increasing complexity, students will develop investigative skills as they explore the wonders of God’s creation, including the Earth, solar system, animals, and the human body.
- Technology: Students will progressively learn complex programs and skills through assigned projects, equipping them with the necessary technological know-how.
- Engineering: From understanding simple machines to delving into Robotics, students will engage in designing, constructing, implementing, and systematizing. They will participate in activities such as Geocaching, Mindstorm robots, and real-world challenges.
- Mathematics: Students will develop skills and concepts in arithmetic through ability-based math groups, leading to a deeper understanding of higher mathematics, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
Social Sciences:
Social Studies: Our students will gain knowledge of world history and geography, develop an understanding of various cultures, and explore the principles of governance, all through research, drama, and art.
Health Sciences and Physical Education: Students will learn about maintaining a healthy lifestyle, improve their physical skills and fitness, and develop teamwork, cooperation, and communication abilities through sports, games, and diverse activities.
Life Skills and Social Responsibility: We will equip students with effective communication skills, guide them in navigating social challenges, educate them on ethical and safe digital media usage, and instill values of respect and kindness toward others.
Fine Arts:
Art: Students will actively participate in various creative art forms, learning about the history, genres, and styles of art, thereby developing their art literacy.
Music: Throughout elementary school, students will engage in vocal music, and from grades 4 to 6, they will also participate in instrumental music. Basic skills will be introduced, allowing for growth and mastery throughout their elementary experience.
Before & After Student Care:
Mara Elementary School will offer the Mara Kids Club (MKC), a before and after-school program catering to families in Nanyuki, Kenya, and beyond. Parents will have peace of mind knowing that their children, aged 5-12, are engaged academically, socially, and spiritually before and after school.
