Social Bible Study Groups

ANEHOPE has been involved in fighting the outdated and harmful cultural practices of female genital mutilation among pastoralist communities in East Africa. ANEHOPE reaches out to communities to share the world of God and organize Barazas to involve community leaders and church members to mentor young girls, educate them, and also share the gospel with them. Those who accept Jesus are baptized as an alternative rite of passage.

The campaigns against FGM also combine other services such as Bible study, Bible distributions, sanitary pads provision, and mentorship programs to help girls who are in danger to go through FGM. ANEHOPE also provide these girls with scholarships that help them access education and protect them from undergoing FGM.

ANEHOPE approach to fighting FGM practices in our community include holding Bible Social Study Groups with some members of the communities mostly impacted by the practices. Through these small social groups, we introduce the topics of FGM through Biblical perspectives and encourage members of these communities to abandon FGM harmful practices and instead accept Jesus Christ as the appropriate rite of passage. ANEHOPE also encourages parents to allow their girls to continue their education so that in the future they can become independent and support their parents. ANEHOPE provides scholarships to these girls and mentors them throughout their education process.
