Born in Rwanda and raised in different refugee camps in Congo Republic, DR Congo, Uganda, and Kenya, his personal journey has inspired him to make a profound difference in the lives of others through education of refugees and kids from less privileged communities.

Education has been a cornerstone of Dr. Twayigize’s life. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Daystar University in Kenya, followed by a Professional Diploma from Southern NH University in the United States. He continued his academic pursuits at Brandeis University, where he earned a Master’s degree. Driven by his commitment to knowledge and expertise, he pursued a Ph.D. at the University of New England in Australia, solidifying his passion for research and academia.

Professionally, Dr. Twayigize has served in various esteemed institutions, including the Office of the President of Kenya in the Government of Kenya, the Harvard School of Public Health at Harvard University, the African Presidential Research Center at Boston University, and the International Affairs department at San Diego State University. These experiences have equipped him with a deep understanding of public policy, international affairs, and the complexities of sustainable development.

Dr. Twayigize’s dedication to uplifting disadvantaged communities and promoting quality education is exemplified through his establishment of the Africa New Hope Empowerment (ANEHOPE). Inspired by his own remarkable journey, ANEHOPE’s philosophy is rooted in the African concept of Ubuntu, recognizing the inherent value and interconnectedness of every individual. Through ANEHOPE, Dr. Twayigize strives to provide scholarships to bright children from less privileged communities, enabling them to access quality education in East Africa.

ANEHOPE’s impact extends beyond education, as it also focuses on sustainability initiatives. Driven by a commitment to renewable energy, ANEHOPE facilitates access to solar panels for families in East Africa, promoting clean and affordable power. Additionally, the organization supports economic stove projects, empowering communities to build cooking stoves using local materials and reducing the environmental impact of traditional cooking methods.

Recognizing the challenges faced by young girls in accessing education, ANEHOPE addresses the issue of menstrual hygiene by providing sanitary pads to schoolgirls. By tackling this barrier to education, ANEHOPE helps girls stay in school and ensures they have equal opportunities to succeed.

Through ANEHOPE, Dr. Twayigize has made a profound impact in the last decade. Over 200 students have received scholarships to access secondary school education, and a significant number have progressed to college and university in Kenya, South Africa, Australia, and Canada. The organization’s work in providing renewable energy solutions has benefited over 600 families, while their efforts to combat harmful cultural practices, such as female genital mutilation, promote Christ’s love and alternative rites of passage.

Looking to the future, Dr. Twayigize aims to bridge STEM education gaps in Africa through the promotion of science education integrated with faith. To achieve this, he envisions establishing the Mara International Christian School. This institution will nurture students’ scientific knowledge within a Christian values framework, cultivating compassionate servant leaders who can effectively contribute as problem solvers, innovators, creators, and collaborators. Dr. Twayigize believes that these Christian values of love, kindness, and integrity will equip future engineers, scientists, and innovators to positively impact their nations and beyond.
